American food is as diverse as the people who make it. Most American food has origins from other countries when people emigrated here and brought their food heritage with them. I'm Italian, so I eat pasta a lot, for my Mexican neighbor, its tacos and rice and beans, which are the foods she made before coming to America. Foods also widely vary according to which region of the country you live in. Hot dogs, hamburgers and snack foods (chips, pretzels etc.) can be considered "All-American" foods, but most of it still has it's beginnings from other countries.

American food is mostly a cross between all the different cultures that have settled there. for example is the American south a hot tamale is like the tamale's your probably familiar with. except they use corn meal instead of masa, use a lot more spice, and boil the tamales in a spicy liquid instead of steaming them ( the corn husk stops the crust from getting soggy.
