Although I respect everyone's viewpoint on how to lose fat but not lose muscle, it seems that there is a lot of misinformation on this subject. First of all, in order to achieve fast fat loss while maintaining muscle, your body's natural Growth Hormone (HGH) production needs to be stimulated. There a couple of ways to achieve this.
One is through strength training with dumbbells, kettlebells, and barbells. You should do compound exercises, these are exercises that work all the large muscle groups at the same time. These types of exercises have been scientifically proven to stimulate your body's natural HGH production, which will burn fat and maintain your muscle. Doing these types of exercises will have your body burning fat for fuel 24/7.
Of course, nutrition is also an important factor in stimulating HGH production. Avoid eating anything sweet, starchy, or any other carbohydrate laden foods prior to sleeping as these foods will elevate blood glucose levels which, in turn, inhibit growth hormone production. Your body normally produces a "shot" of growth hormone about one hour after falling asleep.
If you're doing cardio, you should be doing High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) cardio workouts. These do not need to be long, drawn out workouts. In fact, your workouts shouldn't exceed about 45 minutes, as longer than this and again your growth hormone production may be actually hampered.
